He is the connoisseur of cut, a stylist to
celebrities and socialites from coast to coast. His services are
synonymous with opulence; his legacy, with luxury.
He is Thee Viron Roe, renowned beauty artist
and style personality. Having historically cavorted from one decadent
Dallas style outpost to the next (previous stations have included José Eber
Salon, The Four Seasons Salon, and the Mansion on Turtle Creek), Thee Viron has
engineered an empire of elegant proportions. Royal Roe, we might call him,
for during the past 9 years his loyalty has been to the court…the Crescent
Court, mind you. He is a featured artist at, perhaps, Dallas' most
fundamental fashion institution, Stanley Korshak, and, suffice it to say, Thee
knows D. He recently dished with DallasCrowd on fawning over Farrah, his
philanthropic proclivities, and his covetable catalog of celeb clientele.
"When I was 15 years old, I fell in love
with Farrah Fawcett and the whole Charlie's Angels scene." says Thee Viron,
flipping back his signature long dark locks. As talk of hair, Farrah, and
Eber ensues, it seems that, clearly, the impact of this holy trio has been
paramount. Facts are, the famous hair o' Farrah was groomed by none other
than José Eber, a man to whom Thee Viron refers as an icon. The words he
speaks of Eber are all rightfully reverent and indicative of an admiration that
is deeply felt. "I was with him for eight and a half years and we're best
friends to this day. He's a wonderful man; he's an icon to hair…he's done
Farrah; Raquel Welch; he cut off Cher's hair…"
Earnestly, Thee Viron offers, "Working with
José Eber opened all kinds of doors. He's made a great impact on my life
and my career. If it weren't for him, I probably would have been an actor
or in a musical somewhere."
Luckily for locks everywhere, he chose
shears over stage.
Creating a custom look based upon one's
lifestyle and style preferences is a process Thee Viron has literally turned
into an art. The Austin-born, Dallas-bred stylist identifies the Dallas
look as very chic, with "a little LA and Miami" mixed in. Here in our fair
city, glamour and grooming are interwoven to such a degree that one really
doesn't exist without the other. Such a ubiquitous preference for polish
calls, necessarily, for the raw, artistic talent possessed by those such as Thee
Viron.
In order to take his art to the next level,
the stylist makes it a point to regularly challenge himself and administer
continual personal "upgrades". "I really have to keep myself out there and
stay on top of hair, makeup and wardrobe, and what better place to be than
Stanley Korshak!" He proudly proclaims, "It's Oprah Winfrey's favorite
store, you know!"
Speaking of the big O, many such ladies of
the limelight flock to Thee Viron from both the east and west coasts craving his
signature cuts. As far as a clientele book, his is quite the loaded list,
complete with such stylish somebodies as Dallas darling Angie Harmon and actress
Eva Longoria, as well as Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton and the one and only Bette
Milder, all of whom he refers to as showstoppers.
Yet his work is not confined solely to the
salon. He rattles off a lengthy list of contributions. "I dabble in
a little TV, I've been on La Vida; Good Morning Texas; Ambush Makeover; Good
Day…" Television appearances often include administering style advice on
makeup, accessories, what's hot, and more importantly, what's
really not.
Thee Viron enjoys giving of his time and talent in a myriad of forms, and his
philanthropic inclinations are as much a part of his work as his artistic
inspirations. His creative genius has flourished through charitable
activities such as designing jackets for DIFFA's annual jacket auction and
gala, an event in which he has graciously participated for the past seven years.
He also, with cheerful consistency, donates
makeover packages for the Crescent Court's annual spring celebration. As a
general fact, when it comes to donations, Thee Viron rarely declines. "I
hate turning them down; I always fall through and just give the package." He
quips, "I'm like the Santa Claus of charities; my name should be Thee Charity
Roe!"
Not quite the same ring as Thee Viron, but,
fair is fair. One almost prefers Royal Roe. Either way, all hail
Thee as the King of cut!
